
The Nigerian Network Operators’ Group (ngNOG) 2016, an annual workshop of operators of Internet-connected networks in Nigeria, will open today in Abuja, the nation’s capital city.
The ngNOG 2016 workshop will let attendees share experience and refocus developments in Internet Technologies, Infrastructure, Governance, Network Services, and Security. The event is also expected to have 300 delegates and panelists from Research and Education Institutions, Internet Service Providers, Government and ICT Solution Providers in private and public Sectors, according to organizers of the event.
The ngNOG 2016 is expected to kick off with a conference that will see Professor Umar Danbatta, Executive Vice Chairman and Chief Executive Officer of the Nigerian Communications Commission (NCC) delivering the keynote address
The workshop organized by Nigeria ICT Forum is scheduled to take place from October 31 to November 5 and will gather network operators to exchange ideas.

According to ngNOG 2016 organisers, the workshop’s instructors are a team of highly skilled individuals with many years of experience operating medium to large networks both in the academic and private sector and teaching about network operations. The workshop is delivered in English in five parallel tracks (from 2007) that include:
SYSTEM ADMINISTRATION
Features the installation and administration of FreeBSD Unix and Ubuntu Linux operating systems as platforms for delivery of Internet services. Also covers the basic concepts to make newbies more comfortable in the Unix/Linux environment.
INTERNET SERVICES
Focused on the design and operation of in house Email, DNS, Web, and other Internet services in ways that can scale to handle large numbers of end users. It also emphasizes ancillary services like network monitoring and authentication which should be in place for more reliable Internet services to end users.
INTERNET INFRASTRUCTURE
Focused on the design and operation of networks using routers and switches in ways that can scale to handle large numbers of interconnected sites. Using live equipment as well as simulators, it covers different technologies, protocols and scenarios from the Nigerian environment.
HOSTING AND DOMAIN NAME BUSINESS
Focus is on helping participants understand the business side of Internet services, common tools for managing and supporting web hosting and domain name businesses as well as the roles of global Internet coordinating bodies. It pays particular attention to the domain name system, how to acquire and resell as well as an introduction to Google Tools for business.
IT STRATEGY AND BUSINESS
Focused on Strategic Planning and Management of ICT units and departments that provide services to network clients and users. Serves as a platform for Senior Management of large organizations to share strategies and provide input to national policy.
CONTENT DEVELOPMENT AND MANAGEMENT
Focused on the deployment and management of software and platforms that make it possible to easily develop and aggregate web content. Also includes some web programming primers for participants without a programming background.
APPROPRIATE POWER TECHNOLOGY
Focused on Energy Planning, backups, and alternative power technologies for networks in energy-challenged environments.
