The Federal Ministry of Communication Technology and National Information Technology Development Agency (NITDA), have partnered to offer subsidy for undergraduates of universities in Nigeria to own laptops.
Under the Computer Ownership Scheme (COS), a ₦10,000 laptop subsidy was created for registered students of Nigerian universities to buy new laptops.
The COS programme aims to let undergraduates own computers to boost knowledge and build capacity through Internet-available educational resources, government said.
Under the plan, registered students will have access to a ₦10,000 grant that serves as a deposit for the pay-at-once option or equity contribution for the loan option to buy a new laptop.
Students who intend to buy laptops by paying immediately and those who want to acquire them on loan will benefit from the ₦10,000 subsidy, according to the CommTech Ministry that announced the programme.
Interested students in the COS programme should visit www.cosportal.com.ng for further instructions on how to acquire the laptops, government said.
