Mr Babatunde Raji Fashola, Minister of Power, Lands and Housing says the adoption of e-payment in toll gating system will promote efficiency and accountability.
The Minister says that revitalization of toll gates will be a great revenue earner for federal government, if properly driven by technology.
“If we ask everyone to pay a little as our commonwealth and hold those in charge accountable, and use technology. We don’t pay cash, we pay by token or by ticket and money is accountable and will go to the right place, we can as well be on our way to doing what is right to our roads and bridges”, Fashola told journalist at a press conference held in Lagos recently.
”In view of the dwindling oil prices and the commodity being the mainstay of our economy, and by way of ensuring sustainability and maintenance of federal roads, tolling appears to be a credible option”, he adds.
According to him, fund from tollgates will be used to construct and manage motor-able Federal roads and bridges, which will reduce the amount of time a journey covers, reduce the cost of travelling, reduce accidents caused by bad roads, and ensure safer travel for road users.
