Lenovo maintains lead in global PC market

The global PC industry statistics released by two major US based technology research companies, IDC and Gartner, for the second quarter of 2014 show that Lenovo is the clear global leader in PCs for the sixth straight quarter.

According to IDC, Lenovo achieved 19.6% global PC market share, which is a 1.9% increase from 17.7% in the first quarter. Lenovo more than doubled its lead on HP, the number 2 player from 0.5 points to 1.3 points. The company grew 15.1%, still the fastest among the top 5 manufacturers, even though the market declined -1.7%.

Gartner reported 19.2% WW share for Lenovo this quarter (1Q 14 by the Gartner calendar) versus 16.7% share last quarter, 1.5 percentage points ahead of number 2. Gartner said Lenovo had the fastest growth among major vendors, with double-digit growth in nearly every region.

Yang Yuanqing, chairman & CEO, Lenovo says “Lenovo has again proven our ability to drive growth, no matter the market conditions. We are pleased to see the PC market improving, as this creates even more opportunity for Lenovo to build on our momentum. We have demonstrated we can win in PCs, and expand into other devices all while improving profitability. Today, we are number 1 in PCs, number 2 in the growing PC+Tablet market and number 3 in smart connected devices. Now we have a potent balance: a proven core PC business and new strong growth engines in mobile devices and in our enterprise business.

The global PC industry is a more than $200b business, and the market is getting healthier. Through innovation, consolidation and operational excellence, I am confident we will remain on track to achieve our targets and deliver on our commitments for profitable growth in our core businesses.”
