The Nigerian Communications Commission (NCC) says it has directed network providers to install filters that stops unsolicited text messages that originate from outside their networks.
This was made known by the Prof. Umar Garba, Executive Vice Chairman, NCC at the 11th Port Harcourt International Trade Fair 2015 held recently at the Liberation Stadium in Port Harcourt.

The regulator’s all is coming on the heels of complaints by mobile network users of receiving unwanted messages from their network providers.
Represented Reuben Mouka, Head of Public Relations, NCC, the EVC noted that consumers have the right to complain if they feel undeserved by their network provider.
Also present at the event was the Femi Atoyebi, Deputy Director of the Consumer Affairs Bureau, NCC, who answered questions from consumers and urged consumers to take advantage of the NCC’s “622” toll-free line, so that they are not taken advantage of by service providers.
