The Nigerian domain name industry is benefiting as more local businesses flock online to promote their businesses to the Internet community.
The Nigeria Internet Registration Association (NIRA), the managers of the country’s .ng Internet domain name, says name registrations peaked at 6,797 at Q1 2017.
“For the month of March 2017, there were a total of 6,797 domain name registrations. This figure is more than the March 2016 registrations of 4,129. This is indeed a remarkable improvement”, NIRA says in a statement showing the domain name business trend among the Internet community.
According to Reverend Sunday Folayan, President of NIRA, “The March 2017 total registration is more than the total February 2017 registration of 5,254. This trend shows the improvement in the number of domain registrations.”
Folayan also offered an insight into the link between the economy and the local domain name industry when he says “the economic situation in 2016 was quite different from the economic climate in 2017. Nigerians have re-strategized in their plans for promoting their online business and hence there is improvement in the domain name count.”
Meanwhile, NIRA has advised small businesses to embrace Internet branding strategies to attract new customers online and grow their businesses on the Internet.
According to the domain name manager, “Internet Branding is a word often associated with online marketing.”
