After a very long wait, Nigerians have started getting their National Electronic Identification cards and National Identification Number (NIN), the nation’s ID manager has said.
The National Identity Management Commission (NIMC) says it has commenced issuance of the electronic Identity Card to Nigerians and all legal residents who have enrolled and have their National Identification Numbers (NIN).
According to the Nigerian ID management agency, enrolled Nigerians and legal residents would receive SMS alerts containing information about their card collection centre. They can then proceed to the card collection centre with their NIN slip for biometric verification and card issuance.
“We would like to inform the public that we have commenced SMS alerts to Nigerians and legal residents who have enrolled and have their National Identification Numbers (NIN). If you get an SMS from NIMC, please proceed to the card collection centre mentioned in the SMS with your NIN slip for biometric verification and issuance. We will eventually issue cards to everyone who has enrolled,” the identity manager says.
